As many of you know we were fortunate
To witness several overwhelmingly beautiful piano concerts by Italian pianist Gianluca Luisi, who rotated several music programs to fulfill varied recital circumstances.I have to honestly admit that I don't generally like going to concerts and hearing other pianist play{unless of course it were Vladimir Horowitz or Glenn Gould, both of whom are not among us anymore}Typically my reaction is a feeling of being on the wrong side of the stage ,and wondering exactly why and or how that came to pass. Hearing Gianluca's playing however,I was able to relax{somewhat}and just enjoy the wonderful sounds permeating the room, especially in the case where the Bosendorfer 9' 6" Imperial was being played.Pianists being able to put other pianists at ease,I've concluded is the natural byproduct of the performing pianist focus on the actual music and it's resultant effects and affects, rather than the ego and the focus being" look how good I am".We all have an intuitive sense of another persons self concept;it becomes more obvious as you catch a glimpse of the real soul as it's revealed in performance.Everything you ever were, and are becomes totally transparent during a public performance. In conclusion,I now totally agree with master pianist, teacher Jean-Paul Billaud {my musical mentor of many years;all life experience distills and forms the bedrock of all musical endeavors, not just simply playing the piano, however much you play it's just not enough in and if it self.Much as in Buddhism,a holistic approach is by far the healthiest for all concerned, listener and performer alike.Chow for now.
