Each Song / Piece is assigned a value (points) that's determined by difficulty, length and complexity.

 

Points are given as a self evaluated score.

 

Major areas used as criteria:

  1. Technique - Everything pertaining to equipment (fingers) fingering ,evenness, independence, ease of execution
  2. Style - Pertaining to "type" of music and consequent period of music history it derives from. Faithfulness to stylistic characteristics of period. (Baroque , Classical , Romantic, Contemporary)
  3. Musicality - Power of expression, shaded nuance, changes in inflection, dynamic contrast.
  4. Interpretation - do you have one? A strong belief or conviction about the way you play the piece. Not easily "taken out" of your session (within confines of good musical taste and theatrical correctness!

 There are two ways of scoring.

  1. General - Impression on how you did.
  2. Specific - An Itemized in above four areas.

JUXTAPOSE two overall scores to see how accurate your first impression was against detailed analysis.

 

Most lesson book pieces = 100 points

10 extra points for memorization.

25-100 extra points for innovative changes to "improve" the piece, excluding original music by master composers; Boch, Mozart, Beethoven etc.

500 extra points for recital / public performance.

500 extra points for verifiable concert attendance.

1000 points for totally original music, judged by normal criteria of worthiness:

  • Origonality in presentation and or Design
  • Contrast both musically & Dynamically
  • Imaginative
  • Innovative

*Double or nothing*

You have the choice to double your points after your evaluation. If you choose to accept. You must play the piece / song with ZERO mistakes. One mistake and you lose it all.
